The rest of our story

We serve children throughout their teen years, but we believe we can be most effective by ensuring that the very young have essential early literacy experiences and children in elementary school have consistent reading support throughout the entire calendar year. Our primary goals reflect this focus on children from birth through age 12 and the adults who care for them.

  • 85% of all area parents, guardians and caregivers read daily to their young children.
  • 80% of all area children enter school ready to read.
  • 100% of all K-6 children take part in programs that inspire year-round reading. We also serve seniors who love to read and can no longer travel to a library.
  • 50% of senior citizens living in clustered housing have regular access to books.

Our work is guided by the values stated in our Code of Ethics and excerpted here.

  • We treat each child and adult with dignity and respect and offer quality service to all.
  • We work in partnership with other organizations to benefit the 23 towns we serve.
  • We act with integrity and are accountable to funders and the public for all our actions.
